We use the Samsung email app for exchange it is a lot better than the Gmail app. Not helpful per say but there are more settings and option like download attachments only on WiFi within the app. I have already tried the samsung app. I don't know if you still encounter the problem, but in my case it was caused by my adblocker Block This!
